Innovation Procurement in Austria – 6 questions to PPPI Service Centre

The Procure2Innovate (P2I) project will improve institutional support for public procurers by setting up new competence centres for innovation procurement and supporting existing ones in 10 European Union countries. One of them is the PPPI Service Center Austria, which offers innovative Austrian companies to discuss questions about innovation and sustainable public procurement and to connect with the right contact person within their network. PPPI stands for Public Procurement Promoting Innovation.

In a recent interview, the PPPI Service Centre commented on the role of innovation procurement in Austria: “Innovation in Public Procurement can contribute to the following: higher R&D rates, bigger growth rate, more jobs, better competitiveness and prosperity”. These potential advantages demonstrate “that innovation in public procurement can be justified at every level and in every area, as long as there is a corresponding need”, says the PPPI Service Centre team.

Looking back at the development of PPPI in Austria, the team says “after the adoption of the Action Plan on PPPI by the Austrian Federal Government in 2012, consistent work regarding the PPPI setting and its development in the years 2013 and 2014 followed, creating the basis for the established and well-functioning PPPI service network”.

The Procure2Innovate Network “… gives a good opportunity to facilitate networking, knowledge sharing, collaboration and best practice exchange on innovation procurement.”
